I am the Founder and Director of STMC Consulting, bringing over 20 years of experience across the automotive, defence and motorsport industries.

STMC Consulting offers a more personal approach to consultancy, with clients benefiting from direct access to my knowledge and experience throughout their projects. By remaining personally involved at every stage, I provide continuity, consistency and experienced technical input from initial discussions through to project completion.

My career has covered an exceptionally diverse range of products and industries, from skiing helmets and personal protective equipment (PPE) to military vehicles and Formula 1 cars.

After graduating from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David with a degree in Motorsport Engineering & Design, I began my career in Formula 1 tyre engineering, working at race and test events around the world. This provided an invaluable grounding in engineering, technical performance and working in a highly demanding environment.

I subsequently spent seven years with the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA), progressing from Type Approval Engineer to Senior Type Approval Engineer and Client Manager. During this time, I developed extensive experience across a wide range of vehicle approval subject areas, working with major vehicle manufacturers, specialist converters and component manufacturers. My responsibilities included technical assessments, managing test programmes, customer liaison and overseeing complete vehicle approval projects.

Following this, I held senior compliance and homologation positions across the commercial vehicle, defence and specialist product industries. These roles included responsibility for legislative compliance of commercial vehicle conversions, demonstrating regulatory compliance for military vehicles, and managing certification across a diverse product range including motorcycle helmets, ski helmets, protective clothing and electronic equipment.

My experience also includes managing complete product approval programmes from initial design through to production, including early adoption of new regulatory standards and complex multi-stage vehicle approval processes.

Towards the end of 2024, I established STMC Consulting to provide independent technical support and consultancy to manufacturers and businesses. Since then, I have worked with organisations of varying sizes, supporting projects across vehicle type approval, homologation and regulatory compliance.

Through regular engagement with regulatory authorities and technical services, I maintain a close understanding of the evolving requirements within the certification industry.

My approach is straightforward: to provide experienced, independent advice and practical solutions, with a clear understanding of both the regulatory requirements and the commercial considerations facing my clients.
